A survey conducted in 2013 revealed that 57 percent of American female college students stated episodes of “overwhelming anxiety.” According to a similar study conducted in the United Kingdom, a third of young women and 10 percent of young men suffer from panic attacks.
To help us with our anxiety problems, neuroscientists have discovered a specially designed song. Researchers at Mindlab International, UK gave their participants a puzzle to solve, while they tried to figure out what kind of music relaxes them the most. They also connected various monitors to the participants to measure their physiological responses. That’s when they came across a song by Marconi Union called “Weightless”. The song reduced the subjects’ anxiety levels by 65 percent, and it also reduced their normal physiological resting rates by 35 percent. The song is so effective, the participants even felt drowsy at one point. That is why lead researcher, Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson, advises not to listen to it while driving.
